If you have a free morning or afternoon, here are a few places we love in the area:
Château de Biron
We’ve only driven past so far, but it looks incredible and we’re hoping to get a chance to visit ourselves. A vast and atmospheric castle with nearly a thousand years of history and wonderful views – about 20 minutes’ drive.
Monflanquin
One of the “Plus Beaux Villages de France”. Beautiful hilltop bastide with arcades, a square (which often hosts a market) and far-reaching views. Only about 10 minutes away.
Villeréal
We’ll already have been here on the Monday night for the food market, but for anyone who wasn’t there it’s still well worth a visit. The covered market hall, fortified church and Saturday morning market are all lovely, and there are some very nice bars and restaurants too.
Wine country
The region is famous for its wines and there are numerous vineyards to visit nearby.
Château de Bonaguil
A dramatic fortress a little further afield (around 40 minutes). Often combined with a visit to Biron.
